Foundation in Arts and Social Science BERJAYA UC offers a new programme for aspiring students.
KUALA LUMPUR: BERJAYA University College (BERJAYA UC) is proud to announce the launch of our new innovative foundation programme. The Foundation in Arts and Social Science (N/010/3/0513) (02/24) (MQA/PA 11396) programme gives students an opportunity to get to know, first-hand, all existing degree programmes in the humanities and social sciences, communication and media arts, business and management, hospitality, tourism and culinary arts. At the same time, it offers a quality study experience for those who want to learn more about society, what people do, how they organise themselves and how they live, play and work together. Throughout, students will improve their critical thinking, communication, research and discovery skills, with lots of hands-on projects and teamwork.
A foundation in the social sciences will provide students with the ability to examine any issue, both locally and globally, using an objective approach, thoroughly supported with statistics and evidence. This uniquely thought-through programme offers a genuine alternative that combines typical foundation courses (study skills or English) with liberal arts (such as reasoning or intercultural communication skills) and social science disciplines like psychology, media studies and sociology. It also emphasises learning by doing or what is often referred to as the Berjaya Immersion Methodology, with over half of all courses assessed by 100% coursework. Through this methodology, students will gain practical skills notably in research, writing and evaluation. The programme will develop an analytical eye that will serve to benefit their academic future. Our experts are committed to providing an exemplary education and support for our students to carry with them into their academic and professional life.
The curriculum combines elements from all of the available degree programmes offered by BERJAYA UC, ranging from developing critical thinkers, introduction to practical research, learning computer applications, discovering arts and culture to fundamentals of hospitality, tourism and services.
The programme was designed by Associate Professor Dr. Antoon De Rycker and his team to help students with a diverse range of interests, while seeking to understand how those interests could be specialised in order to become an expert. “We offer a genuine alternative,” says Dr. De Rycker, who is also Head of BERJAYA School of Humanities & Social Sciences. “We give school-leavers a chance to discover what they are passionate about and what they are good at. Students have one whole year to figure out their options before they commit themselves to a particular career. By taking FASS, they will benefit from the broad-based nature of the programme, its focus on independent inquiry and the exposure to related disciplines.
Our programmes are all about making a meaningful impact in your own life as well as the lives of others. Thanks to courses like psychology, sociology, anthropology, cultural studies and languages, you will gain a deeper understanding of how society works and how to become part of the change you would like to see,” adds Dr. De Rycker.
With our foundation programme, students will now have the opportunity to take their first step into international excellence which, furthered by the professional freedom to explore an international career that could take them beyond our borders. With the foundation in arts and social science, students will be able to make a selection of career paths they can embark on, analyse problems and issues and take a more holistic approach to understanding the causes of social change and develop the awareness and sensitivity of the needs and values of others.
